Das vierte und neue Album der Modern-Metal-Dame Otep Shamaya heißt "Smash The Control Machine" und erblickt am 21.08.2009 das Licht der kontrollierten Welt.
Frau Otep selbst beschreibt den Sound ihrer Band als "a total and complete mutiny on the senses. We are a fusion band by nature, inspired by many styles and tones from a variety of musical genres: rock, punk, metal, hiphop, spoken word, jazz and classic rock. We never allow the antiquated limits of a genre confine or restrict us. Our music is universal and does not belong nor can it be contained in anice, neat, little box."
Für diese ambitionierte Umsetzung, welche sich nach Selbstauskunft auch als "Art Metal" bezeichnen lässt, wurde ein Vertrag bei Victory Records unterschrieben, einem der größten US-Labels in Sachen Hardcore, Emocore und Nu Metal.
