PORCUPINE TREE - Updates zum neuen Album

PORCUPINE TREE haben den Titel ihres neuen Albums bekannt gegeben: "The Incident" wird am 18. September als Doppel-CD über Roadrunner Records erscheinen.
Das zentrale Stück des Albums ist der Titeltrack - ein 55-minütiges musikalisches Statement, das Sänger/Gitarrist/Songschreiber Steven Wilson so beschreibt: "a slightly surreal song cycle about beginnings and endings and the sense that ‘after this, things will never be the same again'."
Die Idee für "The Incident" kam Steven Wilson als er aufgrund eines Verkehrsunfalls im Stau stand. "There was a sign saying ‘POLICE - INCIDENT' and everyone was slowing down to rubber neck to see what had happened," erinnert er sich. "Afterwards, it struck me that ‘Incident' is a very detached word for something so destructive and traumatic for the people involved. And then I had the sensation that the spirit of someone that had died in the car accident entered into my car and was sitting next to me.
The irony of such a cold expression for such seismic events appealed to me, and I began to pick out other ‘incidents' reported in the media and news," fährt Wilson fort. "I wrote about the evacuation of teenage girls from a religious cult in Texas, a family terrorizing its neighbours, a body found floating in a river by some people on a fishing trip, and more. Each song is written in the first person and tries to humanize the detached media reportage."
Im Zuge dieses Vorfalls erinnerte sich Wilson an Vorfälle, die sein eigenens Leben maßgeblich beeinflusst haben, wie der Verlust einer Freundschaft, eine Seance, seine erste Liebe und der Tag, an dem er beschlossen hat, sein gesichertes Einkommen aufzugeben und seinem Traum Musik zu machen zu folgen.
Das selbstproduzierte Album wird von vier weiteren eigenständigen Kompositionen vervollständigt, die während einer Band-Session im vergangenen Dezember entstanden sind. 'Flicker', 'Bonnie The Cat', 'Black Dahlia' und 'Remember Me Lover' befinden sich auf einer seperaten CD um ihre Unabhängigkeit vom Titeltrack zu demonstrieren.
PORCUPINE TREE nahmen eine Videokamera mit ins Studio und werden die gefilmten Eindrücke ab heute, dem 16. Juni, auf http://www.roadrunnerrecords.de mit ihren Fans teilen.
Die Arbeit an seinem ersten Soloalbum "Insurgentes", das im November 2008 erschienen ist, hat Wilson auch an der Arbeit zum neuen Porcupine Tree Album beeinflusst: "Possibly because of having done that, this record is darker, expansive, and more experimental," so Wilson. "But when I write for Porcupine Tree, I know the sound I'm after."
